Beyond Extent - Kingdom Below

Theme: The Kingdom Below (Beyond Extent Team Challenge)

I recently participated in my second team challenge with Beyond Extent. It was a brilliant collaborative environment where I focused on both technical and artistic roles:

Lighting: Acted as the lead lighting artist, focusing on mood, atmosphere, and visual storytelling.

Technical Art and Shader Development
I developed a versatile Master Material designed for both performance and artistic flexibility. Key features include: Dynamic Texture Loading: Integrated support for both single-channel and packed texture maps (ORM) to streamline the pipeline. Parallax Occlusion Mapping (POM): Implemented to provide realistic depth to environmental surfaces. Wireframe Overlay: Added a toggleable wireframe blend feature, allowing the team to showcase topology and texel density directly in-engine. Global Adjustments: Every parameter was built with exposed functions, giving the team granular control over the final look without needing to touch the master graph

Environment Art & Scene Assembly
Modular Asset Creation: Designed and sculpted a modular rock kit, pathway, and aqueduct system. Sculpting Retopology: High-poly assets were sculpted in ZBrush, with optimized low-poly versions created in Blender. Baking Detail Pipeline: Utilized Marmoset Toolbag for high-fidelity baking. I leveraged the resulting maps to drive detail normals and ambient occlusion (AO) within the Master Material, ensuring consistent texel density and micro-detail. Leadership Collaboration: Led the Set Dressing for the final scene, focusing on composition and visual storytelling. I also assisted teammates with retopology and technical troubleshooting to ensure all assets met our performance budgets.

I joined this challenge to push my boundaries, and I learned a huge amount from my teammates. It was a great experience in teamwork and pipeline management.
